What are Sunday 68 up to at the minute?

DAN:- "working towards recording our first album and trying to gain as much exposure as possible"

CAL :- " I've been spending most of my spare time writing lyrics and also working on tunes to go with them. Everythings going quite well at the moment"

Where did the band get the name Sunday 68 from?

GAV:- " After toying with various names,we settled on SUNDAY 68, for no other reason than we practice on a sunday, from 6pm until 8pm"

Tell us about your music and who your are influenced by.

CAL :- "its hard to categorise our style because we are influenced by so many bands.We go from fast punk/pop tunes to slow acoustic ballads, but we spend a lot of time getting each song to sound as good as we can. Our influences are the cure, blink 182,jimmy eat world and alkaline trio, amongst others"

DAN:-"Our music has a pop/punk feel to it, with bursts of rock at points.My main influences are american punk bands like blink 182,green day,goldfinger,mxpx,reel big fish,alkaline trio and loads of others."

GAV:-"We play fast punk tunes with a bit rock and my influences are green day and jimmy eat world"

How did it feel making your first single?

CAL :-"it felt amazing ! hopefully its the first step to better things"

DAN:-"Working in the studio was really great and a good laugh, but it was also hard work ! but, at the end of the day when you have your finished product its well worth it and its something you can be proud of"

GAV:-" I felt proud that something we worked so hard for finally saw the light of day and the fact that the money all went to the local hospital was good as well!

Where did the inspiration for the track come from?

CAL :- "Its about having to accept the consequences of a bad relationship. From an early age, my dad has been drumming all these buzzcocks songs into me and I've been told I've adopted the pete shelley style of writing. you know, the tuneful relationship type of song" 

DAN:- "Its about a hard break up and how you just can't give up.You've gotta get your life back on track and pick up the pieces because life DOES keep MOVIN' ON"

Whats your favourite all time band/snip of music, and why?

CAL :-" Favourite band has to be blink 182, but my favourite music has to be JUST LIKE HEAVEN by the CURE. Its got a unique freshness to it and Robert Smith has a style that I can model my own style on"

GAV:-"BLINK 182 again, but favourite tune has to be ONE by METALLICA. Its got everyting I look for in a song"

DAN:-"BLINK 182 for best band and you'd be hard pressed to beat BACK TO HELL by ALKALINE TRIO for raw energy and a catchy tune"

Best new band on the scene and why?

CAL :-" theres a good new band called FALL OUT BOY who are ticking all the right boxes at the minute.they have a good range of songs too"

DAN:-"Even though Im not keen on the whole brit pop scene,I'd have to say the KAISER CHIEFS, Their music is really original and I PREDICT A RIOT is a brilliant song which makes the whole scene just a bit more bearable"

GAV:-"I know theyve been out a while, but HIM are going to be massive this year !"

What makes you happy at the minute?

CAL :-" writing lyrics and music 24/7 and playing my guitar. Also the occasional night of Budweiser is quite good !!!"

DAN:-"My girlfriend and my closest friends, but I really love the direction our band is going in at the moment. Its really exciting to think that things are starting to take off now"

GAV:-"Just helping write songs and hanging out with my mates"

If you had the opportunity to play with any band from the 70's, who would it be and why?

CAL :-"Buzzcocks-my kind of lyrics and my kind of tunes!"

DAN:-"The RAMONES cos I love their style and the music is really amazing ! I'd love to jump around like DEE DEE, but just to have been involved in that punk scene must have been brilliant"

GAV:-"dont know !!! I'm 16 years old for christ sake !!!"

Where do Sunday 68 want to be in 10 years time?

CAL:-" I'd like to have a few successful albums out and be on the front of KERRANG !

DAN:-" Well known and playing strong. As long as we're still making music and as long as its good music, I'd be happy"

GAV:-"Still gigging and living the rock star lifestyle !!! "

Dan, Cal, Gav , otherwise known as Sunday 68, formed in May 2004 after being friends throughout school. They were originally undersdtudies to the school band, but within a year of starting, they had taken on the mantle of schoolboy heroes and built up a large following in the local area with their brand of exciting punk/pop music. A few months ago, all bands in the South Tyneside area were invited to enter an original recording as an entry for the battle of the bands contest. Only last week, they were notified that they had won the competition, with the prize being the chance to record an album free of charge.

In March 2005, they recorded their only single to date, a limited edition release of one of their own songs, "MOVIN' ON".
All 500 copies quickly sold out, and the full amount of money raised was donated to the childrens ward of the local hospital.
