| Liz - Interview | Band history - Deadline | ||||
| What are the band up to at the moment? We only have 2 more gigs until the end of the year, Speed Freaks ball and our record release show at Islington Academy 9th Dec, then we are having a well deserved break for a month. Best gig you have played so far? Probably playing with Rancid at the Brixton Academy a few years ago. That was one of our first shows on a big stage in this country so it was a bit daunting but it was really cool to meet Rancid and play for a big crowd. Whats your opinion of the UK punk scene at the minute? I have to admit I don't get to many punk gigs unless I'm playing them (being a mum and all) but as far as I can make out there are small scenes in most towns. The festivals are best though, like Wasted or Speed Freaks, where there are all your favorite bands + new bands all under one roof and everyone from across the country and beyond comes for the weekend. Favorite Deadline record and why? Definitely Take A Good Look. We really took our time with this album and let the songs develop before recording them. We spent a lot of time on the overall sound, that combined with excellent drumming really makes all the difference. Also I got to record the vocals 3 times until I was happy with them which was a real luxury. Who are your heroes and why? I'm not into hero worshipping or anything. Favourite all time band and album? I'm really crap with albums. My musical taste changes with my mood. I much prefer to make up my own tapes of all my favourite songs or I get "best of" albums. Lyric wise one of the best albums I'm listening to at the moment is You Really Got Me the best of The Kinks. I love songs like Dead End Street and Waterloo Sunset. Musically, and for singalong value, I love Pink's album Try This. I love singing along and it sounds like Rancid with a female singer! I've also just discovered Lilly Allen and have been playing her album to death recently. Obviously Rancid's Out Comes The Wolves is close second... Who rocks your world right now? Herve. He's the love of my life and my best friend. We had a big falling out recently so we are doing a lot of making up at the moment ;) What makes you happy? Making up Tell us what annoys you? Bitches! People who drop litter. I sound like a mum now. Traffic jams. Incompetency. My manager. People who blow smoke in my face when I'm singing! Favourite bevy and how often do you indulge? It depends where I am and what I'm doing. I don't drink when we're playing but on the last April tour I did get a taste for red wine and Jagermeister (not mixed) as neither of them dried my throat out. I love a nice medium white wine with dinner and if I'm out on the piss I'll have Vodka with coke or orange so my hangover's not too bad. What will you be doing in 10 years time? Lounging on a beach in the Caribbean having won a million!............. More likely I'll be exactly where I am now paying the mortgage and trying to make a million. Do you have a message for the world? DON'T DROP LITTER. |
DEADLINE features what are probably the best female vocals to be found in Punk Rock! Its hard to find a rival to Lizs powerfully warm, spine-tingling vocal lines. Multi layered harmonies, melodies to die for and one hit after another. This is the real deal! DEADLINE exploded onto the London Punk scene in 2001 and havent looked back since. They played their first gig less than 4 years ago Yet so much has happened since! With hundreds of European shows, 2 American tours, countless UK gigs, 3 full length albums released worldwide and a 4th one in the making, 2 singles, 2 split albums and numerous contributions to various compilations under their belt, they are probably the hardest working band in the scene right now and have achieved more in a few years without any major label support than a lot of bands do in a lifetime. DEADLINE are an experienced live act and they have gained a reputation for their live performances! They have played from small pub backrooms to crowds of thousands, from New York to Pragues, from Marseilles to Berlin, they know the roads like the back of their hands and have gained an established following. DEADLINE have been invited to play with some bigger names on the scene including RANCID, LARS FREDERIKSEN, DROPKICK MURPHYS & THE DISTILLERS to name but a few and swelling numbers at their own headline shows proves they were a hit! To quote Tim Brooks from Maximum RnR, DEADLINE reminded me of when I first heard Punk Rock and my life changed forever. Make sure you catchem live when they play a town near you! |
