Im looking forward to seeing some good old psychobilly bands again , i used to see a lot at the klubfoot years ago, and had my own band who played a wierd hybrid country punk comedy style we were called the BLUBBERY HELLBELLIES and done about 700 gigs over 5 years. so any of the psycho bands really A lot of the old legends of punk are enjoying a new lease of life on the gig circuits.How do you see this shaping up over the next few years and can you see many record deals on offer? You never know in this game, thats why its exciting , you can be thinking oh, aint much happening , then you get an offer to go to Japan or Norway or something and things pick up , its all an unknown quantity About You. Whats your favorite way to relax? Andy capp style on sofa with a lass to cuddle or if not a whippet or 5 What's your favourite bevy and how often do you indulge? Anything as often as possible specially if its for nowt Whats your favourite all time band/ snip of music and why? Doll by doll from late 1970s, great wierd beautiful songs , sung by my main man with the voice of a god mr jackie leven, im convinced that if they had been around 10 years earlier they would have been as big as the doors, check out www.jackieleven.com Best new band on the scene and why? POL POT POURRIE great dictator rock n roll from cambodia What makes you happy at the moment? Meeting good folk having a laugh , or good disscussion on stuff that means a lot to me like animal rights , or conspiricy theories, drinkin, acting the goat, driving my horse and waggon, travelling, gigging , singing ballads and country , and 50s rock nroll songs, writing songs, do you want me to go on? What's pissing you off at the minute? Sheeple with zero insight , who are happy to have no individuality, who chant monosylibic slogans and think theyre whacky and free, who wouldnt recognise an original thought or action if it hit em slap in the face, and moronic violence either by brain dead arseholes on the streets or by our wonderful( not elected by hardly anyone) goverment, for example in iraq. also people who think theyre into punk rock who only go to the really big gigs by the biggest bands , a lot of these so called fans wont go to support the smaller groups they only wanna go to the corperate gigs at large venues pay a fortune to get in and buy piss weak ale at inflated prices , those of you who do this are as bad as the people who only go to big shows by genesis , tina turner , dire straits etc, dont think your being a bit alternative coz its a punkrock show , go to the smaller places, and support your local scene, you lazy twats. What will you be doing in 10 years time? The same as ive been doing for the last 30 years , playing drinking laughing and moaning, hopefully Do you have a message for the World? Yeah dig deeper , question the shit thrown at you by the media , educate yourselves , take part , try new things, be openminded, and rescue a dog today.

| Band history - The Lurkers | |||
Inspired by American bands such as the Ramones and the New York Dolls, the British beat boom of the sixties and Glam Rock acts like Slade and Sweet, THE LURKERS formed in West London in mid 1976 and quickly forged their own identity with their own brand of punk tunes and lyrics encompassing subjects such as social unacceptability and personal politics. The original line up was: The band built up a huge loyal following around the punk heyday of 1977 and signed to Beggar's Banquet where they scored five top forty hits between 1977 and 1979 . They also appeared on Top of the Pops and many other television shows and became regulars on the popular Radio One John Peel Show. The line up now is: Original bassist Arturo Bassick got the whole thing going again in 1987 after a chance meeting with the huge German Punk band Die Toten Hosen, all of whom were massive Lurkers fans. Die Toten Hosen financed the comeback album, 'Wild Times Again', which launched The Lurkers' career once more and they have continued ever since, with one linup or another. Well what happened to the original line up? "Well none of them are interested in doing the band anymore and you can't hold a gun to their heads. Pete Stride has totally given up gigging, and didn't like touring anyway. Esso is working in mental health and hasn't played in years, Howard Wall hasn't sung for any band since 1982, and like the rest of the old guys, I havn't heard from him in 20 years. I still love playing, so like a lot of the other 1977, 78, 79, punk bands still out there, I'm the one early member whose putting his energy into keeping our music alive". |
